Rock & Roll Weekend
On the weekend of Sept 17th - 18th, we played 2 shows, Friday at Cane's
with The Iron Maidens, an all girl Iron Maiden tribute band, and Saturday at The Rhythm Lounge
with The Gizzards, The Yucks, Major Threat and PDI.
Cane's has a great stage and great sound. Playing there is always a treat, but they can be a bit strict about rowdiness. Some of our friends showed up early, and after a few drinks, got a bit loud. This was before Cane's even officially opened their doors. Well, some things were said, and some people got thrown out. While it wasn't funny at the time, in retrospect it is. Our friends are so rowdy they get thrown out of the bar before it even opens!
The show went great, and The Iron Maidens rocked. I was bummed at first, because they have a new singer and bass player. I thought their old singer and bass player were the two best members of the band, but I was relieved to see that the new girls are just as good, if not better.
The Rhythm Lounge. Wow, what a night. Right from the start, when PDI hit the stage, the beer bottles started breaking and the crowd started moshing. That band lives up to it's name (Punken' Drunken' Idiots). They were great. Then Major Threat comes out, and their singer is wearing a diaper and that's it. They had some technical problems, and I was out in parking lot for most of their set. Then we played, and after us, The Gizzards. It was Matt's (Gizzards singer) birthday, and he was a little drunk by the time the Gizzards went on, but with them, that only helps. They were pretty good. Finally, The Yucks came on, and closed the night out with fury and mahem.
It was a messy night, in the sense that we all got drunk, bottles got broke, drinks got spilled, and all my gear is covered in beer. It was a hell of a lot of fun.
The recordings came out pretty good. Friday night at Cane's is a left-right from the board, plus 2 mics in the back of the room. Saturday night is 8 channels, but Andy and I are on the same channel via a mic over on that side of the stage. Check 'em out:
