The Experiments - Lab Report

February 2005

Hello and welcome to yet another edition of the Lab Report. Hope everyone is having a good year so far and you all survived the long, hard winter - it was a tough couple of weeks.

What's New

We're updating the website with a guestbook, new pictures, new songs and possibly bringing back the graffiti wall.

The new songs are "Functioning Member" and "Building A Bridge To The 1950's", both of which were recorded at our new and improved studio in Dan's apartment. "Building A Bridge" was written after the last election, and is from the perspective of a Frankenstein-type angry mob of ultra- rightwing religious fanatics smashing, burning and censoring things as they rampage thru the country side. In keeping with the theme, it has a 50's rock'n'roll feel and even has a saxophone played by our drummer, Brian chase."Functioning Member", on the other hand ( innuendo not intended), sounds more like what you might expect from us, and has nothing to do with Viagra.

Recent Shows

We made it to the second round of Blind Melon's battle of the bands, but ultimately we got beat by a bunch of girls. Our bruised egos and shattered masculinity were comforted by the fact that at least they were a good band, and they brought a lot more people than we did. Also, they were a lot prettier than we are, except of course for Dave Blood's hair. To quote Andy Guyette, who was quoting Jack Black "This isn't a battle of the bands, it's a beauty contest!"

We played a last minute show at Scolari's office in North Park with Tommy Homicide and ElectroCrypt. It was our first time playing their and we had a blast. Thanks to rick and Claudia from electrocrypt for the hook-up.

The Rhythm lounge in the Sports Arena area is quickly becoming one of our favorite places to play. We've done two shows there in the last few months, and both were fun as hell. It's everything you'd expect from a great bar - like people actually going off and having fun, a good sound system and reasonably priced drinks. Both times we played with the Gizzards , who are a great band from O.B. with great songs that are short, fast and funny as hell. Other bands we played with were D.P.I., The Yuks, and Major Threat.

Andrew,Russ and Jeff's Garage Party was the first time we've played in P.B. that the cops didn't show up. It's not like we weren't loud, I guess they had better things to do that day. Jenny Blood even got a pool going to see how many minutes it would take for them to come. If the Drunken late night karaoke that broke out didn't get the party shut down, nothing would. We were even thinking of calling the cops ourselves at that point.

On labor day we chartered a party bus to take us and a bunch of friends to a party we played in Carlsbad. The party itself was pretty fun, but the busride home was out of control. Drinking and dancing on a moving bus can be a real challenge, especially when it comes to an abrupt stop. The sight of a bunch of drunk people getting off a bus and relieving themselves on the lawn of an upscale LaJolla hotel must have been priceless, especially to the tuxedo'd patrons getting into limo's. The guards at the Military base where we had to drop someone off may have been equally suprized.

We've also been playing acoustically a lot in various living rooms, with Brian making a drumset out of whatever household items he can find like Rubbermaid storage bins, ceramic tiles, plastic trash cans and water bottle crates (thanks to Mark Guyette for the ingenuity). Suprizingly it sounds pretty good.
